A complete cast iron trade weight dating to the Post-Medieval to Modern period (c.AD 1600-1826). Description: The weight is circular in shape with a raised rim with recessed centre on the upper surface  There are two incised concentric circles in the centre. At 12 and 6 o'clock are stamped the City of Westminster 'portcullis'; the in the style of the pre-imperial standard (pre 1826) mark. The lower surface has a wide flat rim with indented centre. Sub-circular bronze coated iron weight of the Tenth or Eleventh Century. Flattened at both ends, with a small globular bump on its round edge. One end bears a motive, which is understood to be a representation of an Arabic inscription, now reduced to a symmetrical pattern; which looks rather like a depiction of a double crown. The motive is surrounded by two rings comprising of a number of circles. On the rounded edge of the object are three, equally placed, incised triangles, comprising of many dots.
