A complete lead weight of probable medieval to post-medieval date (c.1100-1900). The weight is tall, narrow and conical with a flat apex and circular base. The base appears to have a separate, solid, central, lead element indicating the object may be formed from a filled hollow outer case rather than cast or rolled from a sheet. It has a pitted, pale cream patina. Measurements: height: 50.22mm; diameter at base: 21.6mm; diameter at apex: 1.36mm and weight: 120.3g Discussion: Weights such as this can be difficult to date due to being a function…

A complete 18th century set of  bronze nesting apothecary  weights c. 17th-18th century.  The box is circular with sloping sides, thus trapezoidal in section. Three sub-rectangular struts are situated on the upper side of the lid - two arranged in a V shape attaching to the rear of the lid forming the hinge (which opens to about 45 degrees), and a single one in between the V from the other side which forms the latch, which is still in working order. Nested within the container are three weights.  All of the weights are removable, so measurements and weights o…

A lead weight or possible gaming peice, cast in a thimble likely dating to the Post Medieval period (AD 1500-1800). The object has a sub-conical shape with a convex top and a slightly concave base. A very worn late early-medieval (Anglo-Saxon) to medieval lead-filled copper-alloy pan weight, probably dating c.950 - c.1150. The object is circular in shape with flat faces and a convex outside edge. Both faces are openwork with lead infill. The copper alloy design is of two opposing arches with expanded terminals extending from the edge of the object to touch at the centre of their curves.
