A complete lead / lead alloy standing weight dating from the medieval period onwards (c.AD 1200-1800). The weight is pyramidal in shape with a flat, square base and triangular sides that gradually taper towards the top. At the apex projects a long rectangular tab that is pierced at the top for suspension. The object is undecorated and has a powdery white patina. Weights can be hard to date due to being a functional item that has not altered significantly over time. Biggs and Withers (2000) note that standing weights made of lead were still used in comparatively recent times. Addition…

A cast lead weight of possible late Medieval or, more likely, Post-Medieval date. These types of weight were often cast by individual traders to weigh market goods, hence the difficuly in assigning an accurate date to individual weights. Circular in plan, with a slightly domed central area. Some scars on the upper surface suggest a suspension device may have once been attached. The diameter 36mm the weight is 62.5g.

Cast copper alloy trade weight diameter 28mm, thickness 5mm, weight 13.84g. Circular in plan with a raised rim, this artefact is heavily corroded resulting in the loss of almost all the rim and encrusting of the centre obscuring all the detail. As a result a very general date of 16th-18th century has been suggested.
