A cast discoidal lead alloy possible weight of Medieval to Post Medieval date from around AD 1200 - 1900. The upper surface has moulded decoration in high relief comprising a central raised boss with an incised thick rim border of radiating incised lines. The centre of the underside is flat and undecorated with a hole at the centre, possibly for a now lost suspension attachment. The object is 38.2mm in diameter, 8.6mm thick and weighs 65.49g.
The mass of the weight equates to 2.31 ounces and does not obviously fit into any standard weighing system. However, lead will l…

A lead object, perhaps a weight, of probable Medieval to Post Medieval date, about AD 1350 - 1800. It is a sub-conical and solid piece of lead.
The upper face convex face has well-defined near-vertical sides which are 3.3mm tall, then the surface curves up at an angle of 45° and is concave, to a flat central top surface. The circular top has a radiating pattern of grooved lines from the centre to the outside giving the appearance of florets. The reverse face is flat with a central depression, probably from the metal cooling d…

A complete cast lead perforated weight of uncertain date, Roman to Post Medieval, AD 43 - 1800. It is circular with one slightly domed face and one uneven face. It has a central perforation of 8.6mm in diameter at the base, and smaller at the domed apex. It is undecorated and mid grey in patina.
Dimensions:
The object is 15.4 mm in height, 22.6 mm in diameter and it weighs 38.14 g.

An cast lead probable weight or possibly a gaming piece, dating to the later Medieval or Post-Medieval period (about AD 1350 - 1800). The object is broadly square in plan, but has the corners angled, and is rectangular in section. It has a series of evenly spaced lines forming a diagonal grid across the whole upper surface. There is a circle or annulet in each of the divisions. The other sides are plain and undecorated. The object is 18.9mm long, 18.0mm wide, 4.8mm thick, and weighs 13.28g.

A lead cube, possibly a weight, of uncertain date, perhaps Modern, AD 1950 - 2000, with an off centre circular hole through it. The cube has flat faces but rounded corners and vertices. The hole has a diameter of 5.3mm and has very straight sides, looking to be machine made. The lead has a grey patina with some orange staining. The cube is 19.2mm long, 20.4mm wide, 19.5mm thick and weighs 67.8g.
The mass does not obviously relate to any known systems of measurement, but it may be a line weight for fishing or a counterweight from machinery, perhaps designed to be slotted on to a rod. I…

In form it is an uneven truncated cone, rounded at the apex, with sides sloping inwards from a flat base. There is a hole form the apex to the centre of the base. At the top it is only about 1mm by 2mm, but at the base it is square and 3mm by 3mm. The object may have been an anchor for a fixing, or may have been threaded onto a line. The artefact has a light cream patina. It is 16.5mm in diameter and 11.2mm high. It weighs 16.2g (0.57oz). The mass does not…

A barrel-shaped lead weight which appears to have been significantly squashed. It has a hole along the centre of the long axis, and it is of unknown date, Roman to Post Medieval, AD 43 - 1900. It was probably originally circular in cross-section and it tapers at each end. Only part of the weight is still tubular. One side has been completely squashed. There is no evidence of a suspension loop. If the weight had a copper alloy loop in the hole, it could have been a hanging weight of steelyard weight, but it is much more likely to be a net sinker - a weight threa…

A conical cast lead suspension weight probably dating from the Medieval or Post Medieval periods, AD 1100 - 1800. The weight has a circular concave base with a small hole at the centre. The sides are convex and rise to a rounded apex with another, off centre, hole. These holes may have been where a suspension wire was located, although the weight may also have been used standing on the base. The weight has a grey patina, and the surface is abraded. The mass may be consistent with an Avoirdupois weight of 1/2lb in use in the 13th century onwrads, allowing for a missing su…

A lead alloy probable weight probably dating from the late medieval to post-medieval period about AD 1400-1800. The weight is a sub-circular disc with a diameter of 48.4mm and which is 6.2mm thick. There is no design on the front face and the reverse is plain and flat. The centre is slightly concave. There is a small square hole pierced through the centre. It weighs 99.26g. If the object had a missing loop of handle, it could have been intended as a four ounce weight (4oz) in the Mercantile or Avoirdupois systems (106g - 116g).

A lead probable weight of medieval to Post Medieval date, about AD 1350 - 1700. It is a circular disc with rounded sides and one face is recessed in the centre. It has no visible markings. One face has suffered a recent deep scrape. The mass of 46.2g is close to 1/8 of a Troy pound, but this may be coincidental, as the weight does not look to be particularly well made. It may have been used to add mass to weight something down rather than for measuring. It is 34.1mm diameter and 7.4mm thick.
