An incomplete copper alloy weight or a plumb bob, in the form of an acorn, of uncertain date, but possibly Roman, AD 43 - 410. Length 30.22mm, diameter 11.9mm, weight 15.97g. It is an elongated three dimensional acorn shape, of circular cross section. The solid object is broken at the base of the cup of the acorn, but other examples have a suspension loop here, suggesting that the acorn hung upside down. The acorn has a rounded apex, unusually long and straight sided body (cylindrical) and a simple cup with a rounded base and no surface decoration. There is a conical terminal knop at …

Two complete cast lead weight of probable Roman date. Both weights are plano-convex with a central rod of iron projecting from the base and apex which was most probably used for suspension. 1. Height: 13.4mm; Diameter: 14.6mm; Weight: 15.6g. 2. Height: 9.4mm; Diameter: 16.2mm; Weight: 14.8g. Plain weights were cast locally in lead from the Roman period onwards for a wide variety of uses and are hard to date precisely. However, it is likely that these examples are Roman in date.

Cast lead possible Roman weight. It is cylindrical, with a central iron core, which would have become a loop, but has now broken. Roman steelyward weights are usually biconical, not cylindrical but this example does have the iron core like the Roman ones, so it is possible it is Roman rather than Post Medieval.
