A medieval shield-shaped lead trade weight. The top face of the weight has a deep grooved border surviving across the top of the shield and down one side; the other side has the remains of a narrow incised line but nothing as obvious as the groove. The top face has a raised fleur de lys at the foot of the shield, and 2 raised dots at the top in the groove (originally 3? but one obscured by plough damage). The lys design may well have had a crown above the lys, but the top is obscured as there is also an additional panel of lead attached to the top face on the upper part of the shiel…

A flat rectangular lead trade weight, 75.0mm long, 38.1mm wide, 17.9mm high, weighing 416.0g. There is a handle formed from a loop of iron wire 14mm by 22mm in the centre of the top and the letter G stamped on it twice, one either side of the handle. This is probably a trade weight from dating from between the early 18th and mid 19th centuries. The stamped letter G is probably intended to reassure people of it's reliability, although I am unaware of the mark,and as a point of interest the weight is approximately 1 1/2 ounces light, assuming it is intended to be a 1 pound weight.
