It has a perforation at the top of the shield of 5.9mm in diameter. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The object measures 72.44m in length, 58.82mm in width, 16.22mm in thickness and weighs 437g. Similar shield-shaped trade weights have been recorded on the database and dated to the medieval period: DENO-29B991 and SOM-EA1CD5.

A lead weight, probably Medieval, dating from about AD 1200 - 1500. The weight is triangular with a possible illegible design which may be a fleur de lis. The patina is light grey and brown. There is a depression in the centre of the reverse. The weight is 118.12g and may have been intended to be used as a 4oz weight. It is closest to the nominal mass of a 1/4lb wight in the Mercantile system of 1lb of 16 ounces, used from before AD 1300. (Egan, 1998, page 302). The length is 41.5mm long, 33.6mm wide, and 15.3mm thick.

A dimple in the centre of the reverse shows where it was fixed for lathe turning. The weight has stamped marks of a central crown and another less clear mark which may be a poorly executed ewer. or a letter I. Diameter 24.0mm, thickness 4.3mm and weight 12.6g.

It weighs 110.54g which is very close to 1/4lb in the Mercantile, Avoirdupois or Imperial systems (109.4g - 113g) (Egan, 1998, page 302). The weight is piriform with one flat face and one convex face, rounded at the wide end and pointed at the other. It may have been cast in a spoon. Compare SWYOR-4E57C5. It has a smooth cream patina. The object is 54.8mm long, 37.7mm wide, 11.9mm thick and weighs 110.54g.
