Lead possible weight. A cast discoid object, approaching a flat-sided form, with a speckled surface which may indicate it was cast on a sand bed, and with multiple dents and abrasions. Patinated. The mass might suggest this to have represented one [overweight] averdepois ounce, though the finish is so rough that it is difficult to believe this weight could have inspired much confidence in its user, whether as buyer or seller. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1700

Lead weight. A sub-rhomboid scrap of thin cast sheet with cut edges, and with a pierced hole of diameter 2mm at its narrower end. Patinated. Possibly to weight a fishing line; the gently bent form here could, if it were original, impart a spinning motion permitting use as a lure. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1500.

Lead weight. Cast oval lightly plano-convex object of lentoid form with a central longitudinal ridge on its convex side. The object is nicked at one end; the finder kindly suggests the loss of a loop from this site, though the provision would have been slight to enable the secure suspension of the object. Lightly patinated. The mass might suggest this to represent three units of 4.43gms, as used in the Viking 'kingdom' of York and Dublin for silver bullion transactions, or one half of an ore/ora, the contemporary [underweight equivalent of the] ounce. Suggested date: possibly Early M…

Lead probable weight. Cast oval flat-based weight with near-vertical sides and traces of a rib passing up its sides and across its top along the long axis, though dented on one side. The sunken base may suggest this was made in an open mould. Patinated. The present mass is almost exactly one averdepois ounce. This might commend a high medieval or early post-medieval date, though the form also resembles that of early medieval game pieces. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1350-1500.

Lead weight, Cast plano-convex weight with a central moulded aperture of diameter 9.2mm, slightly angled. A notch by the aperture on the convex side - if not the result of adventitious damage - may suggest the provision of a tying notch, as would be used to attach a weight to a fishing line. Patinated. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1500.

Lead weight. Cast plano-convex weight with a tapered moulded aperture of diameter 8.5-10.5mm, slightly angled. A deep notch on one side of the hole and a less well defined nick opposite it may represent tying notches, as would be used to attach a weight to a fishing line. Patinated. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1500.

Lead weight. Cast discoid weight with a light bevel to its edge; patinated. The mass is close to that of a round lead weight from London dated to the period 1270-1350 (Egan 1998 table 15). Suggested date: Medieval, 1270-1350.

Lead possible weight. Cast weight with a moulded aperture of original diameter possibly c.9mm, distorted by partial melting; patinated. This might have begun life as a spindle whorl or conical fishing line weight; the latter is perhaps more likely given the apparently off-centre position of the hole. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Post-Medieval, 43-1800.

Lead possible weight. Cast flat-sided oval weight; patinated overall. One side bears a pair of faint parallel grooves. The mass does not immediately suggest correspondence with any particular system of measurement, nor does it occur as significant amongst finds from medieval London. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Post-Medieval, 43-1700.

Lead weight. Cast sub-circular weight with flat sides; patinated overall. The mass may suggest this to represent one half ounce in either the averdepois or mercantile systems of measurement, and round weights of this approximate value appear amongst finds from the London waterfront (Egan 1998, tables 14 and 15). Suggested date: Medieval to Post-Medieval, 1300-1600.

Lead possible weight. Cast cylindrical weight with an off-centre moulded aperture of diameter 12.6mm; patinated overall. The form recalls that of spindle whorls of Walton Rogers form B, with an early medieval to medieval currency. The aperture size and position distinguish this object from other members of that object class. Weights of similar mass from London were considered to possibly respect a medieval Standard but none were perforated. This may have weighted a fishing line, or have been used for some other task. Suggested date: Unknown, 43-1800.

Copper alloy
Weight, as identified by finder. A cast disc with lightly bevelled edge. The Roman numeral VI is neatly stamped into one face. This detail is considered as possibly Roman for some lead weights, which are described as bearing incuse numbers. It might be equally apt to a Post-Medieval or Modern object - the thickness is exactly 2mm, which might hint at its manufacture in correspondence to the metric system. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Modern, 40-1900.

A cast lead medieval trade weight. The shield-shaped one pound weight has the royal insignia of a crowned fleur-de-lis on one side. This is the device that was mainly used in the North of England (Biggs, 1992, 42). The back of the weight has hacked marks, which are probably plough damage. The length is 69.4mm, the maximum width is 49.1mm and the weight is 250.0g
