It is an elongated three dimensional acorn shape, of circular cross section. The solid object is broken at the base of the cup of the acorn, but other examples have a suspension loop here, suggesting that the acorn hung upside down. A complete cast copper alloy Roman steelyard weight in the form of an acorn. The upper body is tapering slightly in the form of an acorn. Two incised collars around the weight indicate detail. At the top is a large circular loop. The weight is a mid greyish-brown and it is heavily pitted. It would have been hung from a set of balances via a small chain. It is difficult to find excavated parallels, but a similar example is known from 'Ancient Brooches and Other Artefacts, (Hattatt 1989, 472 -473, ref: 172).
