A probably Roman lead steelyard weight, dating AD 43-410. The object is roughly spherical, with an iron suspension loop cast into the top. The iron loop is so corroded the opening is no longer visible. The weight has a mid-light grey pattina with adark reddish-brown disolouration around the iron loop. Similar weights have been recorded on the PAS database, cf. SF-F6878E with several other published examples. However due to their undiagnostic nature, it is difficult to know for certain whether these weights are exclusively Roman in date, as similar examples are found well into the …

An incomplete probably Roman lead alloy steelyard weight, dating AD43-410. The object is piriform (conical on one side and domed on the other) with an iron loop cast into the point of the conical end, though only traces of the iron remain. Cast lead weight, possibly a plumb bob, of uncertain date.The body of the weight is cylindrical in form with a cone shaped terminal at one end and a hole drilled into the opposite end possibly for suspending the weight on the end of a string or line.
