The lines may represent two separate arrowhead forms or perhaps an untidy monogram including letter forms resembling M and V. Cast object of lentoid form and plano-convex section, which has been cast in a shallow oval hollow with a smooth surface leaving a series of fine concentric lines on its convex surface. This might have been a cuttlefish bone, a material also thought to have been used to make moulds to cast small objects. This reporter has seen traces of this usage on a silver mount of late medieval date (NLM-6C1202). The metal of this component is patinated where it appears in the rounded base. The roll was then dipped into molten lead or placed in a larger mould which was filled with eutectic metal.
