The sherd is reddish in colour, with coarse inclusions. On the interior of the vessel the floor has a relatively thick yellow/white residue, with a large oval area of lead that is not obviously a vessel mend but is attached to the vessel. This sherd measures 37.22mm in length, 30.45mm in width, 13.01mm in thickness, and 20.81g in weight. It is of probable later Medieval to Post-Medieval date, c.15th-16th centuries AD if not slightly earlier.2936106618004SF2023-08-21T00:00:00Z2024-03-27T14:47:51Z2024-03-27T14:48:44Z20.81PAS660431970018F613.0130.4537.22111441425159341563215674SuffolkMid SuffolkRestricted AccessYaxleyRestricted Accessbands.shops.handy10SF-431C21FragmentMEDIEVALx14221POST MEDIEVALx41047x14221Other chance findReturned to finderEasternCertain12024-03-27T14:48:44.849Zfinds-11576701157670NLM-40ADB7VESSELMODERNPottery. Fine oxidised fabric with slight mica dusting on its surface. Miniature wheel thrown-vessel, in the form of a jug with plain rim – no pouring spout – and with a biconical body with expanded pedestal base [turning lines on base] and with an applied corrugated strap handle with a trefoil lower end. Dark-stained on one side, chipped at rim. Probably a tourist souvenir from the Mediterranean. The finder kindly reports that Roman material was discovered when nearby houses were built [on Roman Way], and miniature vessels were used in the Roman period, especially as grave goods. However, the fabric is suspiciously fine for a genuine antiquity while an applied strap handle would normally be a feature of a later – medieval – vessel. Darkened patches may be staining from soil or its contaminants, or may hint that the pot had been incorporated in a bonfire. Suggested date: probably Modern, 1970-2000

This is possibly from the shoulder or rim of a large vessel, decorated with a thumb-pressed pie crust-style decoration. This sherd is from a salt-glazed stoneware jug, possibly of Cologne or Frechen ware. The fabric is hard fired and reduced grey throughout, with a brown-streaked glaze on the exterior.

The drill marks possibly represent an attempt to break up the metal for recycling.2936140017004SUR2024-03-20T00:00:00Z2024-03-26T09:56:38Z2024-03-26T15:48:31Z160.69PAS66029BD60014C622.74170.617121141421139651406514064SurreySurrey HeathChobhamSU996151.33947818-0.58013228bands.shops.handy10SUR-29C171Copper alloy10627CastIncompleteMEDIEVALx14221POST MEDIEVALx41047x41047Metal detectorReturned to finderSUR-29BD64_6602ee49a2325.jpg1269726images/smaslin/South EastCertain12024-03-26T15:48:31.564Zfinds-11572911157291NLM-2940F4VESSELIRON AGEPottery.
