A cast copper alloy unidentified object of uncertain date. The object is wedge shaped; resembling the end of a Bronze Age chisel, but the patina looks more modern. The object has a rectangular section, with one rounded, tapering terminal and other terminal is broken. The metal is a mid brownish-green colour and it is patina. This object is likely to be post-medieval in date.

Early Medieval copper alloy object of unknown use. The object is incomplete and irregular in shape but appears to have been originally rectangular. It is decorated in a local variation of the Jellinge style with intertwining tendrils and circular shapes. Remnants of a silver-coloured surface treatment are extant. Two pierced lugs protrude from one of its longer sides. They contain the remains of what was presumably a bar which linked the two lugs together. Each lug sits on the end of a rectangular shaped strip which extends across the reverse of the object. At the end of one of these …

Medal made from uncertain material, possibly mortar or tar (?). The material appears black, shiny and crumbly, the surface of the object being rough to the touch, thus resembling tar. The item resembles a medal or stamp: it is roughly circular with a rim on either side and an image in the centre. There are, however casting flashes left over from the casting/production process. While the obverse shows the head/bust of a bearded gentlemen who appears to wear a soutane (a priest's or religious man's garment) and possibly a skull cap and thus may have been a monk, priest or similar. The r…

A copper alloy and iron finial from an unidentified object which is probably medieval. The object is 57.1mm long and has a maximum diameter of 19.2mm. It is circular in section with the largest diameter at the top, and then tapers to a diameter of 6mm at the bottom. The top is flat but in the centre is a sub-spherical projecting knop. The upper part of the sides of the object are decorated with three very worn human faces, evenly spaced round the edge. Very few details are visible, but the faces appear to be different. On the rest of the object there are traces of grooves that run roun…

A fragment from a cast lead-alloy object of post-medieval date. The object has the appearance of a terminal with a circular cross-section. At on end is a slightly flared sub-circular terminal up to 9.35mm in diameter. This is rebated and it is unclear as it how it might have continued. On its underside is a circle of raised diagonal forming rope-like decoration. Below this is a moulded bird's head, somewhat reminiscent of Horus (the Egyptian falcon god). It is difficult to be certain whether the head is orientated longitudinally or not. On two opposing faces the head tapers to a point…

2 gilt non-joining fragments of an elaborate possible finial from an unidentified Late Saxon object (with a possible third fragment found by J. Harrell, record number NMS-581083).
