An incomplete, Post Medieval C16-17th, cast, copper alloy strap loop once with integral loop. Comparable with class F type 3 single recurving hooked clasp but once with a long blunt hook. The simple decorated front surface imply it was meant to be seen but there is no evidence on surviving dress. They were probably attached to breeches or doublets so perhaps the hook was clipped over leather or textile straps or a belt with a loop to attach a secondary object such as a key, purse, knife or chatelains. Both the suspension loop and the hook have broken away. There is a moulded relief rou…

A copper alloy S-shaped fastener or strap fitting, probably dating from the early Post-medieval period, AD 1550 - 1650, but of a style also used in the 18th century. The terminals are zoomorphic, depicting the heads of dogs, or snakes. In the centre of the buckle is a raised moulding consisting of two transverse collars flanked on either side by a group of three pointed-oval leaves. The decoration appears to be on both faces, but the object is so worn this is hard to determine. The buckle has a smooth light brown green patina and is exceedingly worn, especially on the necks of the anim…
