A cast copper-alloy early medieval strap end, Thomas Class A, Type 1, probably Trewhiddle style dating to c.AD 800-900.
The strap end is broadly rectangular in form with a split end, which tapers towards the closed end with a very worn zoomorphic terminal. Medieval copper-alloy composite strap end with a forked spacer. It appears to be nearly complete. The front and back plates are of equal size and shape, with straight or nearly-straight parallel lateral edges, one more roughly abraded than the others, and a tapering (triangular) closed end which terminates in small knop. The attachment or open end is more irregular in shape and has certainly lost some fragments, but there are remnants of at least one apparently intentional V-shaped notch on each plate. The spacer runs the extends the full width and nearly the full length, from the knop…

The arms are all rounded at the end. Between the split portion are iron remains, and possibly some other, organic remains. It is probably incomplete as the rivet fixing is not present, and the end is an an angle, possibly where it has been cut off. A similar object is LIN-…
