A fragment of a copper-alloy statue of Roman date, c.AD 43 - 410. The fragment is an ear from an animal, possibly a horse. It is sub-triangular in plan with a U-shaped section. Repeated transverse grooves are positioned around the edge of the front of the ear, giving the appearance of hair. Shallow cut-outs with straight edges are present around the area of the break to the lower edge of the ear. A small square cut-out is also present through the edge of the object. A copper alloy paw that probably formed part of a statue. It is moulded with four toes, and part of the leg remains. There is no other patterning present. The underside is slightly hollow. The whole has a green patina which is more obvious on the underside and back of the foot. The lion has been a popular symbol in heraldry for many centuries, this example is probably from a statue which was mounted on a gatepost or similar, from the post medieval period onwards. The ear is quite accurately modelled with an attached ear lobe at the base and the upper external lobe curving upwards. The hair modeled represents relatively short hair. The reverse is concave. A fragment from a stone statue or ornamental sculpture, 144.3mm in length, 80.1mm wide and 1.1kg in weight. The fragment comprises the heal, instep and around 2/3 of a naked right foot of a figure, carved from a dark fine grained igneous rock, possibly basalt. The pose suggests the figure had its leg bent forwards, with the rear of the foot raised off of the ground and the toes bent and connecting to a pedestal base or other object, of which a small portion remains attached to the underside of the foot.
