A fragment of Iron bloomery slag. The fragment measures 43.74mm long by 37.66mm wide by 22.40mm thick. It weighs 23.0g. It consists mainly of highly fired or vitrified clay, with a small amount of iron rich slag bonded to the surface. The Iron rich slag exhibits air bubbles and has a smooth, almost glass like surface. The process of smelting iron ore to produce iron has not changed much from the Iron Age to the Medieval period.

Large piece of lead casting waste, probably of Roman date. The object in plan is roughly half of a circle with a thickening along the outer curved edge so that in section it is wedge shaped. One surface is relatively even in texture and may represent an impression from a ceramic crucible. Therefore this object may be waste from lead processing removed from a crucible or mould.

The object is a piece of slag of uncertain date. More specifically, this object is tap slag; it was formed during the smelting process when it became necessary to empty the furnace to keep the channels clear. This slag was removed by tapping the furnace, causing it to run out from a hole at the base of the furnace while it was hot. This forms the characteristic ropey-looking surface. The material is dark grey and dense. There are inclusions showing iron corrosion in the base of the object.
