Object type: SLAG
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A piece of what appears to be copper alloy slag. It has a high metal content and is very heavy for slag but seems too irregular for a finished piece. There are small bubbles in the piece and a rounded hollow seems to be the result of a large bubble. There is a loop at one end and a shaped tail at the other.

Object type: SLAG
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Iron Age to Post Medieval bloomery slag. It is weakly magnetic suggesting it still has a reasonably high iron content, suggestive of the more inefficient recovery rate of the Early Medieval and early Medieval. Bloomeries were used for the production of iron until the 1700s in the North West of England of some other areas, but by and large they were being superseded by the more efficient blast furnaces by the 1500s. Dates to between c800 and c1700 AD. The length is 18mm, the width is 17mm, thickness 9mm, and the weight 6.02g.

Black glassy slag. Industrial residue: probably waste from a heavy industry of post-medieval to modern date.
