An amorphic piece of copper alloy Slag of Unknown date (1150 BC-AD 1750). The surface is characterised by lumps and hollows. The slag has a deep green and brown colour with a pitted patina. The back of the object is flatted while the front is convex. Scientific analysis of the elemental composition of the copper alloy would allow a more accurate date to be suggested. Length: 39.86mm, Width: 34.54mm, Thickness: 5.69mm, Weight: 13.9g.

4 fragments of Copper-alloy slag of indeterminate age, c.2350BC - Present Description:The Fragments are varied but all irregular in shape although most have very pourous typical of slag and all green with either a grey or brwn hue. Fragment 4 maybe more high metallic being far less porous and with more smooth edges than the other fragments.. Measurements: Fragment 1: 73.58mm long, 65.63mm wide, 33.06mm thick and 200g in weight. Fragment 2: 30.10mm long, 23.18mm wide, 4.16mm thick and 6.47g in weight. Fragment 3: 2: 40.74mm long, 26.83mm wide, 12.7mm thick and 32.04g i…

Two amorphic piece of copper alloy slag. Found in an area with Bronze Age and Roman artefacts. The surface is characterised by lumps and hollows and has a tin element is indicated relating to bronze working. The slag has a good deep green patina, similar to that seen on some local Bronze Age metalwork, so it may date from this period. If this lump of slag is indeed Bronze Age, it is interesting that it has survived and was not re-melted. Fragments of casting waste like this one are hard to date. Scientific analysis of the elemental composition of the copper alloy would allow a more ac…

An amorphous piece of copper working slag, smooth yet curved on one side so possibly dripped (or scraped) from a crucible. Without contextual information it is impossible to date copper slag however noting its presence is important as it may indicate metal working.

Very irregular shaped lump of copper alloy metal-working residue. Very dense, very rough granular surface. Appears to be something that was soft rather than fluid when its shape was formed. Much of the surface is covered in a light green powdery oxidisation layer, but there are flecks of bright silver colour showing where high points have been scraped suggesting some silver content. Under magnification the surface is quite porous with frequent pitting visible. Appears to be the by-product of metal working in the area.

Two irregular shaped lumps of copper alloy metal working slag. Frequent small pits are visible in the surface of both lumps but are most prominent on one side of each. The other side of each lump has globular protrusions and occasional larger less defined pits. There is a coating of light green powdery oxidisation (verdigris) over much of the surface of both sides with patches of bright copper coloured metal showing.
