This tap slag is dark grey in colour. There is a smooth maroon coating on the upper surface. This is broken up by a few small bubbles and rivulets. The texture indicates directionality of flow.

Two fragments of iron slag, of unknown date. The fragments were a sample of two from a site where many hundreds were found. They were located in association with an area of burnt clay, perhaps suggesting an iron-smelting site.
