Small square piece of copper-alloy sheet, probably a rove. It measures 9.7 x 7.9mm, and varies in thickness from 0.7mm at one edge to 0.5mm at others; it weighs 0.3g. There is an off-centre circular hole, 1.6mm in diameter, which has been pushed through from the slightly concave front to the slightly convex reverse. There is no decoration. It could be a fragment of a larger object, but is quite neatly shaped, so may be a complete rove from a rivet. Separate sheet roves are commonest in the medieval period, but are used from Roman times onwards.

Copper alloy and iron possible rove. Cast diamond-shaped copper alloy plate with a border gutter and plain front. Rust marks the passage of an iron rivet through the centre of the plate. The finder kindly suggests a function as a mount and a possibly medieval date; the latter might be better supported had a lighter copper alloy rivet been used. The heavy fixing may hint at attachment to leather, perhaps horse harness. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1350-1500 Length: 25.6mm, Width: 17.5mm, Thickness (clear of rivet): 3.1mm, Weight: 5.43gms.

A decorative rove or mount of Post-Medieval date, c.18th century AD. This artefact is a flat cinquefoil shaped sheet plate of silver that weighs 0.74g and has a thickness of 0.8mm. The maximum diameter is 13.5mm. At the centre is a circular aperture of 5.4mm diameter. The reverse surface is undecorated. The front surface has incised linear and curvilinear decoration. This decoration is present in each of the five lobed areas, approximately equidistant between the outer edge and central aperture. A longer curvilinear line stretches out across each lobe on its' width axis.…

An incomplete medieval or early post medieval copper-alloy rove dating to the period c. AD 1400 - 1600. The rove survives, but the rivet is now missing, as demonstrated by the gaping aperture in the centre of the rove. There is also damage to the side of the rove which interrupts the original rounded shape of the upper part of the fitting. There is a cylindrical shaft emanating from below the head and the damage has exposed the central channel of this. It is extremely thick and robust in form, suggesting it was used in an area of high wear. Rove and rivet fittings are known from …

An incomplete medieval or early post medieval copper-alloy rove and rivet dating to the period c. AD 1400 - 1600. The rove is apparently roughly cut around its head and so is sub circular. It is c 20.11mm in diameter. There is a cylindrical shaft emanating from below the head which has split as a result of the rivet being hammered through. About 7mm of the cylinder and rivet remain, the rest broken away at an early date. The rivet was probably made of sheet copper-alloy which has been rolled to form a long cone. Once forced through the rove it may have been bent back (clinched) or sim…

Copper alloy object, possibly a rove. It is square in plan with a hollow raised central dome. The hollow has been filled with lead alloy or lead, possibly to act as a sealant. This may conceal the the stub of a rivet shaft. Examples of roves on the database include NLM-A0D0D7, KENT-36B1E6, and IOW-A24507. Difficult to date but probably within the period from c1350 to c1900 AD. The length is 15mm, width 15mm, thickness 4mm, and the weight 3.9g.

On the front, at the centre, it is domed and has a sub-circular rivet hole with a maximum diameter of 2.9mm. At the rear the central part is concave. A corroded, lozengiform thick sheet copper-alloy rove with a 7mm long, corroded iron rivet through its centre. The form is more properly that of a parallelogram. Its edges has been clipped. It is difficult to date and is probably post medieval, although an earlier date cannot be ruled out.

A complete cast copper alloy rove, possibly from a Late Medieval to Early Post-Medieval purse bar dating c. AD 1450 – c. AD 1550). Diameter: 10.8mm; thickness: 3.7mm. Weight: 1.87g. The object is hemispherical in form with a slightly flattened base. A central sub-circular perforation has a maximum diameter of 3.7mm. There are concentric striations on the upper face and circumferential striations on the lower face. A khaki green patina covers the surfaces. It is possible that this object is a rove that was secured to the lower end of a purse bar shank.
