A rim sherd from a wheel-made Roman jar. The reduced fabric has a dark grey-black colour and highly abundant fine mica inclusions, with small voids possibly indicating now burnt out organic material. The interior surface of the rim is pitted and slightly fragmentary. The bead rim itself is everted, with a small uneven ridge below, and wheel striations are visible on all surfaces of the sherd. The internal rim diameter is likely to have been 220mm.

Postmedieval pottery sherd. The sherd is part of a storage jar dating from the 16th - 17th century AD (1500's to 1600's AD). The sherd is from the rim of the jar, which has a thumbed strip running along the exterior for decoration; some of the handle is still intact. Brown glaze is visible on the interior of the vessel. The micaceous inclusions suggest the pottery is local Totnes type ware; this storage jar was possibly made at Bridgetown Pomeroy, near Totnes, where wasters of the same type of pottery have been found. (John Allan, pers comm, October 2011).

The base of a very large storage jar or dolium in a coarse grey fabric. These vessels often had thick bead-rims that formed a fairly narrow opening and were frequently buried in the soil to keep the contents fresh. The form of these vessels change very little over time and so it is difficult to give a definite date, however they are found mainly in the 2nd to 3rd centuries.

A worn and sooted rim fragment from a curved rimmed jar in vesicular fabric. The vesicular appearance is a result of inclusions, possibly shell, that leached out during firing. It was probably made very locally and is quite coarsely tempered. It cannot be dated precisely but is probably of 2nd to mid 3rd century date.

2 rims and 2 body sherds of Dales ware jars. There is sooting at the interior of rim of one vessel. They have distinctive rims and were made with a shell-tempered fabric in North Lincolnshire. In the Roman City of Lincoln they are found from the mid-3rd century to the 4th (250-400). However, near the source of manufacture (as Saltfleetby) they could arrive earlier from perhaps 200 AD. They are generally handmade towards the base but finished on a slow wheel at the rim, and were used as cooking pots.

The body sherd of a lug-handled jar in a locally produced grey ware. The handle is neat and small and there are traces of burnished, wavey-line decoration at the side of the handle. The fabric is quite fine with a light grey core and the vessel is very well made. It would have been ised as a liquid holder either in the kitchen or at the table. It dates from the mid 2nd to the early to mid 3rd century.

The rim and neck of a wide-mouth jar with bifurcated rim. This type of jar is a common form in Nene Valley grey ware, but the fabric of this sherd is that of a locally produced grey ware. This vessel is more likely to have been used as a liquid holder rather than as a cooking pot. This sherd dates from the later 2nd to the 3rd century.
