Plain hollow object, probably a pommel from a sword or dagger. It is oval in plan and profile with a circular hole through the top with a break to one side and an irregular trapizoid hole thorugh a central flattened area at the bottom. The sides are otherwise plain. It's plainness makes it hard to accurately identify as it could potentially be part of an numbe of objects. However the patina and dimensions as well as the irregular trapizoid hole are similar to those on late Medieval - Post Medieval pommels from swords or daggers. See, for example, SF-C87850, NCL-1C8472 and WMID-F5E…

This is a good example of a copper alloy, post medieval dagger cross guard with remnants of the tang and blade intact. The guard is cast and has applied incised cross hatch decoration, which appears to have been added post the casting process. It has a subtle ‘S’ shape to the cross member and a ‘thumb rest’ or lateral stop, incorporated to one side. The thumb rest measures 12 x 9.45 x 5.34 mm and is also decorated with longitudinal incised lines. The wings, widen to the ends.
The guard has the remnants of the iron blade and tang intact, with the blade having the wider…

Object type: EDGED WEAPON
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Cheshire East
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy object of uncertain function probably Roman in date.
It is linear in form, flat on the front with a central raised line on the reverse. The top half is in the shape of a vase (seen in plan), it then narrows for the lower half. Both ends appear broken. The lower terminal is beginning to curve before it is broken.
It is most likely some form of spear tip or fitting. A similar item was found at South Shields (p.216 no.740) and was described there as a rod.
