The fragment is a narrow, rectangular plate with a projection on the reverse suggestive of a lug for fixing. The metal is mishappen due to having been burnt. The object measures 20.90mm x 12.92mm and weighs 4.1g. This interpretation is based on evidence previously seen from Yaxley which includes pottery and metalwork of the 5th and 6th centuries AD.
