Roman coin, obol, Alexandria mint (AD71-72), Vespasian (AD69-79). Ref: Dattari #379. Alexandrian coins have been found in hoards and as site-finds in Britain, but they are rare. As they did not fit into the standard "Augustan" monetary system adopted in the rest of the Roman Empire, they rarely left Egypt. However, the appearance of this coin does suggest that it was not lost in Britain in antiquity. Although poorly preserved, the identification of this coin can be made with some confidence.
