A 4th century roman (AD 330-337) copper alloy coin of Constantinopolis type. This design of coin was issued to celebrate the foundation of Constantinopolis (Byzantium previously) as the new capital of the Roman Empire by Constantine I. Obverse:- personified representation of the city of cosntantinople, helmeted and armoured, facing left. Legend around '[CONSTAN]TINOPOLIS' Reverse:- Winged victory left with dexter foot on ships prow, dexter hand holding staff and sinister resting on shield. Exergue illegible.
