Complete gold Victorian Sovereign. The obverse of the coin features the veiled bust of Queen Victoria facing left. It features the legend VICTORIA.DEI.GRA.BRITT.REGINA.FID.DEF.IND.IMP. A modern gold fanam from India, probably dating from the mid to late twentieth century AD. The coin has a design on one side only (unifaced) the reverse side being blank. Robert Bracey, Kushan Coin Project Curator at the Department of Coins & Medals, British Museum comments 'This is a Kali fanam, the designs are based on the Vira Rajam fanam but now more resemble a goddess than the lion that was originally represented.
