Dimensions: The fragment is 15.1mm in length, 8.2mm in width, 2.5mm in thickness and it weighs 0.73g.

Though originally suggested to be a gold plated contemporary copy of a gold stater of the North Eastern region / Corieltavi with a copper core (Esuprasu type dating from about AD 40 - 47), it is also suggested that this might be a coin with an unusual level of copper mixed with gold (as those with copper cores tend to weigh less). The coin is 20.1mm in diameter, 3.0mm thick and weighs 5.47g. A very fine Early Medieval gold Merovingian tremissis of the 'National gold' series dating to c. AD 580-670. Unidentified mint and moneyer, possibly Frisian. The obverse depicts a bust facing left, crude in style, wearing a diadem and with stylised drapery. There is a partial linear border to the left.
