Fine off-white fabric with three pierced holes of diameter 6mm passing through the deep internal corrugation of an externally flat-bottomed vessel with an everted wall, of estimate basal diameter 140mm. Suggested date: Roman, 43-410 Width: 110mm, Height: 18.5mm, Weight: 90.07gms

A fragment of ceramic strainer/colander or cheese press of uncertain date, probably Roman or Post-Medieval, c.AD 43-410 or c.AD 1500-1800. The fragment is sub-triangular with irregularly sized and spaced circular apertures are pierced across the sherd. It is otherwise undecorated. The ceramic fabric is reddish orange with evidence of darker slip and numerous small sandy inclusions. It is not possible to ascribe a specific period to this object based on this fabric type.

The sherd is a base fragment which has a central hole and two more near the edge of the base. The holes have been stabbed. The interior of the base is slightly convex. The fabric has a light grey coloured core and a orange/brown coloured surface. The fabric is micaeous with no obvious inclusions.
