Incomplete pewter sub-circular buckle frame. The upper face of the frame is rounded with a bevelled inner edge, whilst the reverse is flat. There are two rounded knops on the outer surface at equal distance to one another. On the inner edge, adjacent to these knops is the remains of oxidised iron, suggesting that an iron strap bar originally sat between the two. It is possibly a variant of the circular shoe buckles common in London during the 15th century (see Griffiths et al. 2007, p.85, no's.436-7). Length: 2.3mm, Width: 2.2mm

Complete cast lead alloy (pewter?) buckle of post-medieval date (1660-1720). The frame of the buckle is sub-rectangular (rectangular with rounded corners) in plan with two central drilled holes to which an iron (assumed from encased orange corrosion product adhering to the inner surface of the frame) axis bar (not present) would have fixed. The pin which would have fitted to this bar is also missing. In profile the frame is slightly bowed. Centrally positioned at either end of the frame are two moulded pin rests, these are decorated with horizontal cast lines, or half moulded ribs. In …

An incomplete cast pewter post-medieval buckle with separate spindle, probably a shoe buckle: it bowes in profile. The frame is sub-rectangular with incurved long sides. The outer edges are formed of recessed ovals either side of a groove; on one side this would have acted as a rest for the chape. At the end of the pin bar is a triple knop. The pin bar itself is of iron and has corroded; the chape is missing. The upper surface of this buckle is bevelled while the lower surface is flat.

Here we have an example of a small sub-rectangular two piece shoe, or knee buckle dating perhaps from the beginning of the 18th century. The frame is now all that remains, the ferrous pin and thus the chap, are now missing. The frame seems to be in pewter or a base metal and still has the casting edges as if it had not been fully finished. It has concave sides and moulded pin rest at each end of the frame with a moulded scroll decoration to the central spindle holes.
