A cast copper alloy pin from a Medieval annular buckle, 42mm in length. The pin has a sub rectangular cross section with rounded corners. There is a small raised grip at the junction with the loop which likely aided with the operation of the buckle. The articulation loop is complete but has been bent open. Circa late 13th-15th century.

A complete Post Medieval cast copper alloy buckle, c.AD 1720-1770.
A Georgian shoe buckle, complete with chape and pin. The buckle comprises a heavily arched frame, drilled spindle, chape, and pin. The frame is D-shaped in cross section, and swells along its horizontal and vertical sides, tapering to narrowed corners. The chape frame is sub-oval and has a single internal spike. It has two hollow lugs that accommodate an iron spindle. Between the lugs a copper-alloy pin is secured by the spindle. The pin is 'D'-shaped in cross-section, flat at the rear.

A very small fragment from a Post Medieval copper alloy double looped rosette buckle frame dating to c.AD 1550-1650. Only the rosette and a small part of the frame survive.
The fragment includes a moulded rosette of six petal surrounded a raised central pellet. Two arms project from opposite side of the rosette each being a shallow D-shape in cross section with a flat back and convex front. They curve indicating the rosette was at the apex of a loop. The fragment is a dark green colour.

A small post medieval cast copper alloy double looped buckle. Both ends are pointed and thickened and decorated with parallel incised lines. The sides are concave and the strap bar crosses at a narrowed point in the frame and itself is stepped with a narrowed constriction for the pin at the centre.

A medieval copper-alloy single-loop buckle with integral plate. The frame is teardrop shaped, expanding to the front, with a pointed and notched pin rest on the front edge and an integral pin articulation loop at the rear which projects into the frame. The plate is narrow and rectangular, 5.7mm wide and decorated with three incised saltires. The underside of the plate has a large integrally cast attachment rivet complete with the original rove.

An incomplete Post Medieval cast copper alloy double-looped oval buckle, probably dating from (AD 1650- c. 1720).
The frame is complete but the pin is missing. The frame is oval in plan and consists of two D-shaped loops divided by a narrow central strap bar with trapezoidal cross-section. The decoration on the outer frame consists of ten moulded sub-rectangular raised pellets; four around each outside edge and one at each end of the strap bar. The reverse is undecorated and flat. An incomplete cast copper-alloy late Roman non-zoomorphic buckle, with integral triangular plate dating to c.AD 350-400. The frame is kidney- or heart-shaped in plan, in that it is D-shaped but with a concave front edge. It is sub-circualr in cross-section. The frame is joined to the plate by a bar, which is flat in cross-section and which extends slightly to either side of the frame and plate. Behind the bar the plate begins with a circular pin hole and a smaller pin hole below it. Then in either corner is a smaller countersunk rivet hole.

This is a fragment of the frame, including one corner. The surfaces are wide and flat, sloping downwards at the edges; the corners of the frame are angled. The obverse is covered with cast floral decoration. The rest of the frame and pin are missing.

This is the chape of a buckle, with a single pin and a broken terminal. The terminal is of unclear shape and size. This would have attached to a drilled spindle in a double-looped buckle. The item is slightly corroded with a mottled green-brown patina.

A cast copper alloy loop chape from a late 17th or 18th century shoe buckle. The chape has an openwork trapezoidal frame with rounded corners and a small pointed internal projection. An incomplete Medieval copper alloy buckle plate, or possibly a strap end, dating to c. 1250-1350. The plate is 21.8mm in length and rectangular with a trefoil rear terminal defined by circular notches on each side. There is a single central rivet hole on the rear end and two more flanking the plate at the front edge, which has stumps for three projections which originally formed part of an openwork plate (see SF-B5211C for a more complete example). The facing surface of the plate is covered with ring and dot decoration.

A post medieval copper alloy rectangular buckle dating to c AD1720-1790. The buckle is complete. The buckle comprises a rectangular frame which has been drilled through in the centre of the shorter side and a double spiked spindle inserted. The buckle may have been tinned. This type of buckle may have been used to fasten garters on boots. The buckle has no chape.
Dimensions: 19.5mm length; 16.5mm width; 2.8mm thickness; 2.23g weight.
