A near complete cast copper-alloy and iron shoe or knee buckle dating to the Post-Medieval period (c. AD 1660-1720). Description: The buckle consists of a slightly convex sub-trapezoidal symmetrical frame with flat expanded outer edges. An incomplete cast copper-alloy post-medieval double-loop trapezoidal buckle c.1620-1680 (Whitehead 1996, 82). Description: The buckle survives as one loop of a trapezoidal frame with lobed protrusions at either end of the pin bar. The remaining outer edge is pointed. The outside edge of the buckle is bevelled while the lower surface is flat, giving the bars of the frame a D-shape in cross-section. The buckle's pin is missing. An incomplete cast copper-alloy Post-Medieval double looped or 'spectacle' buckle dating c. AD1550-1650. Description: The buckle consists of two ovoid loops with small lentoid knops at either end of the central strap bar. The loops are undecorated, but lightly bevelled with flat backs, this leaves the frame roughly D-shape in cross-section. The pin is missing its point and the strap bar is slightly in relief. Medieval (13th to mid-14th century) copper alloy buckle: The buckle is a D-shaped frame which has a narrowed and slightly off-set frame. The frame is expanded in width towards the apex. The pin is an elongated triangle which is curled around the strap bar. The frame is abraded and has and incomplete dark green patina. Around the strap bar there is a buckle plate which is a rectangular sheet folded in half across the bar to form a U-shape in profile. An incomplete post-Medieval tin alloy (pewter) buckle (c. 1660 -c. 1720). The pin, chape and spindle are missing. The frame is oval and has fragments of an iron spindle surviving within each drilled hole. At the front, above each drilled hole, there is a four faced pyramidal knop. An incomplete cast copper-alloy buckle dating to the Medieval period, c. 1250-1400. Only the buckle frame survives, the pin and accompanying plate missing in old damage. The frame itself is 'D' shaped in plan (single looped) and demonstrates a recessed offset strap bar with a thickened outer edge to the frame-at the midpoint of which is a 'V' shaped recessed pin-rest. Preserved with a somewhat coarse brownish patina, it measures 18.35mm in length, 29.46mm wide, 4.34mm thick at the midpoint of the frame and weighs 4.89g. Compare an example published in Meols (Egan 2007) see p. 91, no. 485.
