An incomplete copper-alloy brooch of late Iron Age to early Roman date, c. 100 BC – AD 100. Uncertain type.
The brooch comprises a rectangular plate with a narrowed elongated trapezoidal foot to one end and an integral coiled spring to the other. The circular sectioned spring extends from the centre of one edge of the plate. It extends backwards and curves up and round to form a coil. The coil continues upward and curves over the central spring to form a second coil to the other side. The coil then extends downward to form the tapering sectioned pin.

The brooch comprises a plain, circular sectioned frame with expanded knop terminals. Both terminals are flattened knops with grooved decoration.
A humped pin remains fitted around the frame by a coiled loop. The pin is a flat rectangular sheet where it loops around the frame and tapers to a circular section before flattening out again at the tip.

The brooch comprises a circular frame with a narrow rectangular section and six raised circular collets at regular interval to the upper surface. No fill remains within any of the collets. The brooch is flat with a narrow D-shaped section and is in the form of a bird, possibly a cockerel, facing left.
Faint moulded lines decorate the upper surface denoting a hooked beak, small crest above the head, a pointed wing extending up and backwards from the shoulder of the bird and a thick curved tail from the back end. A small, rectangular projecting plate to the bottom of the brooch represents the feet of the bird.

The catch plate is incomplete, attached to the foot on the bottom and is moulded from the bow and consists of a single sheet. The bow is thin and sub-circular in section and does not appear to be decorated.
The fragment has a green and brown patina and is worn. It is 19.19mm in length, 7.34mm in width and 10.26mm in thickness with a weight of 2.73g.

The object consists of a circular sectioned piece of wire forming a brooch spring. Six (6) turns of the spring remain. The outer turns of the spring bend over to form a loop, connecting the two groups of three (3) turns. One of the inner turns tapers to a flattened point meeting the neighbouring turn. Only a single separately made head half-round knop remains. The knop is semi-circular with a narrowed waist and semi-circular base. The curved edge of the base has two parallel groves of decoration. A short worn part of the central panel or a wing remains attached to the base of the knop. It has been bent forwards with worn breaks along its edges. The top of the knop appears to include the remains of a further projection or knop but terminates short with a worn break.
