A fragment of an Early Medieval copper-alloy cruciform brooch dating to circa AD 475-550. The extant piece consists of a side knop which would have been attached to the headplate of the brooch.. It is dumbbell shaped in plan and plano-convex in section, with a flat reverse. The front face consists of two lobes joined by a constricted mid-setion. Each lobe is decorated with three incised transverse grooves. At the efge of one of the lobes is a shall median rectangular groove which would have facilitated attachment to the brooch. It is now covered with iron staining.

An incomplete Early Medieval copper-alloy ansate brooch dating to circa AD 700-1000. Cast in one piece it consists of two flat discoidal terminals at either end. One terminal appears to have been slightly miscast with a circular protrusion projecting from one edge. The bow has a triangular-section and is curved in profile. The terminals and bow are undecorated. Projecting from the reverse of one of the terminals is a heavily corroded lug which would have held the now missing pin. There is now no trace of a catchplate projecting from the reverse of the other terminal.

A fragment of medieval copper alloy annular brooch, probably dating to c. AD 1250-1450. The brooch was originally circular in plan, but now only part of it remains.The brooch frame is decorated with double rows of small punched annulets in between collets. The collets contain the remains of a white paste which would have been used as a fixative for decorative pieces of coloured glass.The pin is missing.

A copper alloy half-round side knob from an early medieval, Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch (c.AD 475-550).
The object has a D-shaped based that is decorated with three bands of grooves. Underneath the base is a traverse groove an circular perforation through the centre of the knob. From the base, the body is notched to present a narrowed waist. At the end of the knob is a slightly flattened down with a vertivle notched incised from the centre downwards, a small circle is present at the tip of the dome. The object has a smooth light green patina.

Medieval copper-alloy annular brooch with most of the pin missing. The frame is oval, flat on the reverse and bevelled on the internal and external edges on the front. There is a constriction for the pin at one of the narrow ends and opposite this an externally-projecting approximately trefoil or T-shaped knop. This has two short opposing convex-edged and pointed lateral foils and a larger and longer central foil, perpendicular to these and parallel with the pin. It terminates in a rounded point shortly after a step-down in thickness from the front of a fraction of millimetre.

Medieval gilt copper alloy brooch consisting of an annular frame in abraded condition and a cast pin with a collar. The frame is D-shaped in cross-section with the flat underside angled gently upwards towards the centre. Eight radial engraved lines divide the convex front into four short and four long segments, with the latter bearing very faint traces of closely spaced multiple pecking, and one subdivided by the pin constriction. Fragment of a Roman copper-alloy trumpet brooch of Mackreth’s (2011) type TR 3.2 and similar, as far as it survives, to ibid Pl. 89 Nos. 14690 and 5464. The trumpet head and the upper part of the flat pelta-shaped plate are extant. The rest of the plate and the lower bow is missing and only the stump of an integral loop survives on the top. On the reverse of the head there are a pair of very minimally protruding stumps, one on each side: remnants of the spring axis-bar retention lugs, each with an incomplete perforation. An incomplete, copper alloy Roman Colchester Derivative brooch of the Polden Hill type and dating AD 75-175. The axis bar, spring, pin, foot, catch plate, and most of the wing caps are missing.
The head is 19.15mm wide, including the two semi-cylindrical wings. The wings would have terminated with circular or oval wing caps, however, these are largely gone, with only a small section of the wing cap remaining. Fragment of a Late Iron Age to Early Roman copper-alloy Birdlip Brooch of Mackreth’s (2011) type 4.1a or b. The trumpet-like head and the straight upper part of the bow are extant and joined at a slightly obtuse angle. Between them there is an expanded transverse disc, projecting forward, sideways and very slightly rearward. Immediately below this on the front of the bow is the characteristic turned-up beak. All parts are cast in one piece. There is no trace of the spring or pin.

The wings are concavo-convex in cross-section and broadly rectangular when viewed from the front. The edges at the tips are very slightly curved. One is broadly perpendicular to the top and bottom edges and the other is very slightly oblique. The wings are not decorated.
