A flat copper alloy fragement from a later medieval or post medieval decorative monumental brass or possibly a smaller panel, escutcheon or plaque. The object is broadly triangular with a straight edge which may be its base and appears to comprise a (right?) foot from a much larger figure which is pointing left, with fine engraved cross-hatched textures suggesting a mail sabaton being worn. The heel and ankle are retained, with a break at the leg from the rest of the image. An unclear curved element juts up to the front of this, with curled elements around the area of wh…

Fragment of a medieval monumental brass palimpsest. There are two original but incomplete edges forming a right-angled corner. One is short and straight, the other is longer and mainly straight but begins to curve outward before meeting one of the other two edges, which are irregularly-shaped worn breaks.   One face bears the letters ‘ln’ in recessed blackletter typeface. The opposite face has a very slightly thickened border with a straight internal edge lying along the shorter of the original edges of the fragment. A straight parallel-sided band and an area wit…

Two joining fragments of a medieval monumental brass. One is irregular in shape with two circular perforations. The other is a half-crescentic: a narrow curved triangle. When joined they have a single convex edge spanning both fragments, which is possibly original. The other edges are uncertain, but some of them are surely worn breaks. One face of both fragments is covered with decorative incised lines. A dense concentration of short oblique lines at one side seem to represent feathers. Longer slightly curved lines at the other side may be borders or another part of the winged animal&r…

Buckled fragment of Medieval to Post Medieval thick copper alloy strip, probably part of a monumental brass. Rectangular strip with side borders. broken transversely at both ends. Unfortunately the strip is from the gap between two words - one ending in a capitalised R and the other beginning with an 'O'. Insufficient survives for the stye of letting to be diagnostc of date or for the inscription to be interpreted. That said, the letter that can be seen best does not appear to be Medieval black letter, so perhaps the brass is early Post Medieval. Circa AD1400-1600. Dimensions;- l…
