Both the form of the coin deposit, which was somewhat irregular and lozenge shaped in plan (largely filling the pit with little or no soil infill around it) and the pieces of fabric underlying the coins, suggest a container flexible enough to partially take the shape of the pit in which it was deposited; perhaps a fabric or soft leather bag. Iron fragments may be associated with this container.
