Roman copper-alloy probable scale balance arm and suspension loop. The terminal end is decorated in the form of a boar’s head. It is difficult to see how the object would have functioned as a balance arm unless it has been drastically bent downward, perhaps in order to break it. An alternative use may have been as an arm for suspending something else like a lamp or small bowl. Probably dates to between c43 and c410 AD. Length 90mm, width 25mm, height 35mm, weight 64g.

A gilded cast copper alloy pendant dating from the early medieval period, that is the 9th century AD. The artefact survives almost complete, although it is a reworked object that does not survive in its original, larger, form. The fragment was broken off a larger object and shows signs of having been reworked into its current shape, which is probably that of a pendant. All edges are rough to the touch but the original break occurred at what is now the bottom of the pendant. The flat sides (top and sides) are smoother than the break and show possibly previous tinning. The current sh…

A Late Bronze Age gold-plated copper alloy penannular ring dating from 1300-800BC. The ring is oval in shape and cross-section with a narrow gap between the terminals which are flat ended. One of the terminals has a chip of metal missing at the edge. The surface comprises of a bright gold colour and is possibly silver rich but there does not appear to be definitive bands of lighter (silver-rich) gold. There does not appear to be any evidence of a copper core and the weight may indicate it is more likely the penannular ring is made of gold, rather than gold plated copper-alloy. But non…
