Copper alloy seal matrix of late medieval date c.1300-1400AD. The seal is a pointed oval (vesica) shape with a pierced lug on the reverse. The central motif, which is surrounded by a plain border, comprises a bird of prey (possibly a hawk). A band of lettering surrounds this central image. The legend reads * S' WILL'I DE MAVTO (Seal of William de Mauto). The reverse of the object is plain with an integral suspension loop cast towards the top of the object. A Medieval pendant hanger or suspension mount from a horse harness pendant, probably dating to the 14th century AD. The suspension mount is rectangular in plan. Integral to the rectangular mount is double-circular lugs with circular rivet holes on either side. Projecting from the rear of the object are two integral circular studs for attachment. The object has a dark green patina and is in fair condition. Similar examples which can be found on the PAS database include LVPL-16BD62 and BH-1F3E30. In profile it is broadly lentoid, with slight tapering edges. In cross section the axe is lentoid in shape. The butt is relatively thin having a flat edge, the butt has been broken. The brooch is broadly irregular in plan and is rectangular in cross section; in profile it is gently bowed (forming a shallow C shape). The overall shape of the brooch is formed from three interlocking / conjoining circular hoops, within each hoop is a saltire cross formed of spokes emanating from a central projecting boss or knop.
