Palstave axe of Middle Bronze Age date (c. 1,600 to 1,400 BC), of typical non side-looped form with a "shield" shaped moulding immediately below the stop ridge. The H shaped hafting channels at the butt are well developed with high side flanges to support the split wood handle, the end of the butt terminates in an oblique angle, this is most likely due to a casting flaw at the top of the mould, it looks unlikely that this is post-depositional damage. A medieval gold quarter noble of Henry IV (1399-1413), second/light issue dating to c.AD1412-13, mint: London, initial mark cross pattee. Ref: Woodhead 1996: pl. 20 no. 199. The coin has been heavily clipped removing upper parts of some letters in the inscription. It is possible that the coin has been doublestruck. The coin with its four lis in the first quarter of the shield is not listed in North. Woodhead (1996: pl. 20, text for no 199) discusses a very similar example for Henry IV, suggesting it was produced from early dies and tentatively places it in the second/light coinage.&n…

incomplete cast copper-alloy book fitting, dating to the medieval period, c. AD 1350-1450. The fitting appears to be of Howsam class A.1. The main body of the fitting is comprised of a circular central portion 10.8mm in height, with a drilled hole at the centre. from one edge emerges a zoomorphic head pointing downward, toward the base of the fitting. On it can be seen moulded decoration depicting ears, as well as a constriction defining the snout or muzzle, and beneath, an incised line defining the mouth. Late Bronze Age socketed axe head (1000 - 800BC), probably a South Eastern variant. Socketed looped axehead with a single sub-rectangular mouth moulding and a additional collar moulding below. There are three raised moulded ribs on either side. Ewart Park tradition (Burgess Metalworking phase XII). This corresponds to Needham’s (1996) Period 7 circa 950-750 CAL. BC. There is a fairly even mid-green patina all over and a small break on the blade, but is otherwise complete. There is also a small crack running from the socket along one side but this could be modern damage. Poor casting…

Medieval gold quarter noble of Edward III (1327-1377), Fourth Coinage (Pre-Treaty Period), Series G type Ga/Gd mule, dating AD1356-61 (North 1189/1190), mint: London. Ref: North 1991: 52. The coin is slightly chipped around parts of the edge and is lightly clipped removing the tops of some lettering and creates an irreularly shaped edge to parts of the coin. The reverse includes an odd spelling, reading EXALTABITVR IN GALhORI instead of the standard EXALTABITVR IN GLORIA, a rarely seen variation (Potter 1963: 128).

An Iron Age "concealed loop" strap union or horse brooch type fitting. The plate is flat, 68.9mm across and openwork with bilaterally symmetrical flanking S-shaped elements with fields of incised "basket weave" decoration, flanked by a pair of lateral quarter-circle winged projections. The central designs of both of these sides comprise large circles with S-shape or opposing teardrop elements containing central circles.
