A contemporary copy of a copper-alloy Roman sestertius of Antoninus Pius (AD 138-161), dating to the period c.AD 145-161 (Reece period 7). HIARITAS, S C reverse depicting a standing figure left, possibly Hilaritas, Concordia (or even the emperor?), holding patera in right hand. This is a contemporary copy of a sestertius of Antoninus Pius. It combined an obverse from his COS IIII issues (c.AD 145-161), with a reverse type that has a blundered Hilaritas legend, which only appears in earlier issues of his coinage (e.g. RIC III, no. 606). However, the figure is not correct for Hilar…

Copper alloy modified Roman coin, possibly a sestertius. The flan is square with rounded corners and appears to have been hammered around the edges to square-up or lip the periphery. The thinness of the coin and the fact that both obverse and reverse are struck in relatively low relief for the period suggest either a contemporary copy or that the object was struck in imitation of a coin, but was not intended for use as one. Obverse; female bust facing right, probably Faustina the Younger (Reece Period 8. Circa AD161-175). Reverse: standing female figure. Die axis 6 o'clock.

A cut fragment originating from a sestertius struck for Faustina I, dating to c. AD 161-175. Reece period 8. Reverse: uncertain due to wear and cutting of the coin. Mint of Rome. This fragment consists c. 20% of the original flan, with the edges apparently having been hammered into a square shape before a neat truncation has removed this slice from one edge. The motivation for this action may have been votive in character, though this remains uncertain.
