RRC p. 541, no. 544/27 Mark Antony issued the 'legionary' denarii from a travelling mint, possibly in Greece, to pay his fleet and legions in the build up to conflict with Octavian (Augustus), which culminated in the Battle of Actium on the 2nd of September, 31 BC (Grueber, 1970, 526). The coin measures 17.5 mm and weighs 3 grams.

A complete silver plated contemporary copy of a Mark Antony legionary type denarius issued for the 7th legion 'Claudia', dating c. 32-31 BC onwards (Reece Period 1). Travelling mint with Antony. Obverse: ANT AVG, III VIR R P C, Galley. Reverse; LEG VII, legionary eagle between two standards.The coin has been manufactured with a layer of silver foil or plate, which has been wrapped around an iron core.
