Silver coin. Round halfpenny, possibly of Henry IV (1399-1413), if so, probably heavy coinage issue of 1399-1412. Obverse description: Facing bust with bifoliate crown, thin neck above low flat-bottomed shoulders. Obverse inscription: [--]REX[--], curule X. Reverse description: Long cross, three pellets in each angle. Reverse inscription: [CIVI/TAS/]LON/DON Diameter: 14.8mm, Weight: 0.64gms, die axis: 6

A medieval hammered silver penny. The obverse has a forward facing bust with a pellet to the left of the crown, the legend is illegible. The reverse has a long cross with an annulet or quatrefoil centre, perhaps indicating the York mint. The reverse legend is also illegible. The obverse design suggests the coin might be of Henry IV-see North 1362 (AD 1412-1413). The coin appears to have been mis-struck, with the reverse design duplicated slightly off centre. This may be the result of double striking (where the coin is accidentally struk twice with the same die) or of overstriki…

Silver Coin. Penny. Alaistair Wardle identifies this as 'a York heavy coinage penny of Henry IV (1399-1413). He kindly notes 'there are only 2 dies for York heavy pennies - this is the one with obverse legend ending in FRANC'. Obverse description: Facing bust with shoulders, crown with tall central fleur. Reverse description: Long cross with central quatrefoil with pellet in centre, three closely-spaced pellets in each quadrant. Spink 2004 (page 174) tends to confirm identification, though this coin is very worn - all legends lost - and perhaps clipped. Diameter: 15.93m…
