A complete silver Early Medieval cut farthing of Cnut (1016-1035), 'Pointed Helmet' type (North 787) dating to c.AD 1024-30, mint: London, moneyer: unknown. Ref: North 1994: 168; Screen 2015: cf. nos 2899, 2950-2, 2956, 3033 for mint spelling.  Measurements: length 9.78mm, width 8.58mm, thickness 0.73, weight 0.27g. The surviving reverse inscription [  ]NDN[ ] is likely a portion of the mint name and is listed for London in Cnut's 'Pointed Helmet' issue, e.g. LVNDN, LVNDNN (see Screen 2015).

Moneyer probably Gunnleifr [GVNLEOF], only known at Chester. the obverse depicts bust facing left, in front sceptre. The reverse shows a short cross which normally would have a voided centre but in this case a hole is there. portion of the inscription missing above and behind the head. North, J.J. 1994. Early medieval silver penny of Cnut (1016-1035), Short Cross type, minted by Eadwine at Lewes, c.1029-1036 AD BMC xvi, Hild H, North 790 A coin which appears to be struck from the same reverse die with a similar double NN in ON and a line parallel to one cross arm is recorded in the Early Medieval Coinage record No.1025.0855; that example is from the National Museum of Helsinki published in Sylloge of Coins of the British Isles 25 (1978), coin no. 855.
