Bust facing/small cross type (North 830) dating from c.AD1062-65, moneyer: Leofwine, mint: Derby. Ref: North 1994: 181.Coins from the Derby mint are rare finds and this is only the fourth recorded by the PAS. An example of Edward the Confessor's 'facing bust/small cross' type struck by Leofwine is listed by Jonsson and Van Der Meer (1990, 52, 67) from the Elmore Jones Collection. The Elmore Jones coin, sold by Glendinings in 1971, is possibly die-linked to the new find although this remains uncertain owing to the resolution of the image in the Glendinings catalogue (Glendining & Co 1971, 25, pl.IX no.245). The reverse inscription of that coin, however, is listed differently, reading LEOFPINE ON DEOI and it is difficult to be certain if this was an error. 4747331062106513OXON2023-03-06T00:00:00Z2023-06-06T00:00:00ZOMS receipt 28222023-06-23T14:24:29Z2024-01-29T11:50:38Z1.07PAS64959D0D0016CD171.11221421141421832886508571OxfordshireWest OxfordshireRestricted AccessCrawley CPRestricted Accessbands.shops.handy6OXON-59D3EE19574425283Bust facing, bearded and crowned; in front, a sceptre.EADPARD REX A+Small cross pattée.LEOFPINE ON DEOR10Derby26346127x26812PennyEdward the ConfessorEdward_the_ConfessorSilver11728Struck or hammeredCompleteEARLY MEDIEVALx41022LateLateEARLY MEDIEVALx41022x41022Anglo-Saxon stylex41012Metal detectorReturned to finderOXON59D0D6_resized.jpg1232856images/edwardcaswelloxon/Coin of the kings of All England 924/5-1066N 830 (Bust Facing / Small Cross) (Hild.
