Measurements are; diameter 14.1mm, thickness 09mm and weight 1.10g. The surface of the coin has unusual pinprick pits. A good parallel is EMC number : 1054.1083. See North number 818 on page 179.

An Early-Medieval silver penny of Edward the Confessor (1042-66), pointed helmet type (AD1053-6; North 825; BMC vii), mint: York, moneyer: Thor. Ref: North 1994: 180. The obverse shows a bearded bust facing right, wearing a pointed helmet. His right arm and hand are shown holding a sceptre fleury. The inscription reads EDPER[D] R[EX]. The reverse shows a short cross voided with each arm ending in three small crescents, facing to the border. There is an annulet in the centre of the cross. Another annulet in one quadrant denotes York (Eoferwic) as the mint, also shown in the inscription…
