Silver coin. Possibly a penny of Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), cf. Spink (2004) nos 1173 and 1183 for possibly similar features. The size and mass would be more apt to a worn halfpenny. The finder kindly drew attention to such features as may be discerned. Obverse description: possibly bust left; two layers of a crown and a segment of the line defining an outer circle appear. Reverse description: possibly a small central cross; segment of outer circle. Diameter: 15.9mm, Weight: 0.47gms.

An Early Medieval silver coin: a cut halfpenny of Edward the Confessor (AD 1042 - 1066), Pyramids Type dating from AD 1065 - 1066. The Moneyer is Godwine (Godpine) but the mint is unknown. The centre of the O in GODPINE is so deeply struck that it is actually a tiny hole through the coin. See North Volume 1 (1994), page 181, number 831 which is BMC XV. There is an extra pellet in the first quarter of the reverse. The coin is 18.1mm long, 9.2mm wide and 0.8mm thick. 0.5g.
