Obverse: +EADPEARD REX ANGLORX (DP blundered, NG and ORX ligated); Diademed bust left. Reverse: +ÆLFSTAN M‾O CANT; Small cross pattée. Diameter: 19.5mm. Weight: 1.47g. DA=12:3. North, J.J. 1994. A Late Saxon silver penny of Edward the Martyr, 975-978 AD, minted at Canterbury by the moneyer Wine. [North 1980, no.763]. Dr Martin Allen notes that Wine has been recorded at Lympne in the reign of Edward the Martyr (BM and EMC 1986.01333)and that it was quite common for a moneyer to work in two mints in the same area.
