A pierced and incomplete silver penny of Henry VII. 'Sovereign' coinage, York mint under Archbishop Rotherham. Diameter: 14.9mm; thickness: 0.5mm. Weight: 0.55g. Note from image: the coin appears to have been pierced twice, both to the left of the seated sovereign. Both piercings are encrusted. This may have been undertaken so that the coin could be sewn onto fabric or for suspension as a pendant although it is also known that coins were pierced to removed them from the currency (although they still appear in hoards of the period).
