An incomplete medieval silver penny probably of Edward IV, second reign (AD1471-1483) dating to c.AD1480-1483. Mint of York, struck under the authority of Archbishop Thomas Rotherham. The inscription has been almost entirely clipped away and the identification is based on the mint, the marks by the breast - a T to the left and a badly struck key to the right - and the quatrefoil at the centre of the reverse. The initial mark is indiscernible, but for this coin would be a rose. North (1991), p94, no.1654.
