A Medieval silver coin; probably a halfpenny of Edward IV, 2nd Reign (1471 - 1483), Durham mint but unlike the published examples. The coin is the right size for a half penny, but has the reverse legend of a penny, and has the additional feature of a V on the reverse in the CIVI quarter. The portrait is most similar to Withers type 4 (minted under Bishop Dudley), but the V to the left of the neck is not at all visible. The initial mark appears to be circular, probably a rose. A medieval silver coin: a clipped penny of Edward IV, second reign (1471-1483), mint unidentified, but probably Durham. As with many of these coins it was probably struck on a small flan and subsequent clipping has removed much of the remaining legend. It is 13.8mm in diameter and 0.5mm thick. It weighs 0.44gm.

A Medieval silver coin: a penny of Edward IV, second reign (1471-83), Durham mint. This coin was struck from local dies for the benefit of Bishop William Dudley (1476-83). At some time it has been pierced with a small, circular hole in the centre of the king's crown. It has also been clipped and most of the legend is missing. It is 14.7mm in diameter and 0.8mm thick. A Medieval silver coin; a penny of Edward IV (second reign issue) dating from AD 1471 - 1476. It was struck at the Durham mint from local dies issued under Bishop Lawrence Booth.
Obverse: bust facing. B to left of crown. Crosses by neck. V on breast. Pansy initial mark.
Reverse: D in centre. Extra, small, pellet in each quarter. V under the C of CIVI. Colon of two crosses (+) after TAS.
Reference: North 1663. Compare also NARC-E853C5, SOM-899A25, HAMP-A1EA33 and DENO-CDECB7.
The coin is 14.9mm diameter, 0.8mm thick and 0.61g.

A Medieval silver coin: a penny probably of Edward IV, second reign light coinage, Durham mint, dating from AD 1471 - 1483. It was probably struck from local dies at Durham for the benefit of Bishop Lawrence Booth or Bishop Willliam Dudley. The coin is 12.8mm in diameter and 0.3mm thick. It weighs 0.38gm. It is only the size and weight of a halfpenny, so may have been made on a halfpenny flan, or may have been reduced by clipping. The size of the bust and inner circle match a penny.
